Ballisodare Fishing Club Report May 25th – May 31st
Good week at Ballisodare with 62 fish caught for the week.
Conditions for the week were mixed, with the river level rising and falling the fishing was not easy however good numbers of fish were still caught.
Monday May 25th
Visiting angler Alan Whitely had a good day on Monday catching and releasing his first ever salmon on the prawn (4lb) and then went on to catch 2 more weighing 5lb and 6lb at the falls. Tony Scallan had a good fish of 11lb on the fly up river on Monday. Other successful anglers were Liam Gilsenan 5lb + 6lb on worm, Gerry McHugh 4lb on fly, and Vincent Henry released two fish on the fly of 4 and 5lb.
Tuesday May 26th
Mark Walton broke the duck with a 5lb salmon on the fly at the falls, Alfie Mahon had two at the falls on the worm weighing 5lb and 4lb, Ronan O’Connor also had a fish on the worm at the falls weighing 5lb. Up river Eamon Ruddy had a 7lb fish on worm, Sean Maye had a 6lb fish on fly and Patrick O’Connor had an 8lb fish on the worm.
Wednesday May 27th
Eddie Gibbons had a 7lb fish on the fly at the falls (Willie Gunn tube done the trick) , Anthony Doherty of Limerick had 2 fish at the falls on the worm weighing 8lb and 3lb. Up river - Paddy Loughlin and Eamon Ruddy had fish on the worm weighing 8lb and 5lb respectively. Gerry McHugh had a 5lb fish on the fly and John Scanlon released a fish 8lb from the fly.
Thursday May 28th
Jim Stafford had 2 fish both weighing 5lb on the fly at the falls, Darragh Kenny had a fish 6.5lb at the falls on the worm. Successful anglers who had fish on the worm up river were Paddy Loughlin (4lb), Ken Hunter (4lb), Sergio Breton (5lb + 7lb), Stephen Cassols 4lb and Hillary Mitchell 4lb. John Connolly and Gerry McHugh released fish weighing 8lb and 4lb respectively.
Friday May 29th
5 fish were caught on Friday, all up river. David Crawley had a 5lb fish on the fly. Sergio Breton had a 4lb fish on the worm, Jack Burke had 2 fish for the day on worm weighing 5lb + 7lb, Fechin McMorrow Jnr had a 4lb fish also on the worm.
Saturday May 30th
Saturday was the best day of the week 13 fish caught for the day with 6 of these released.
Sergio Had a good day at the falls on the worm with fish weighing 11lb and 4lb. Michael Mullaney had a fish at the falls weighing 5lb on the fly and Paul McGrory had a 5lb fish at the falls also on fly.
David Crawley had 2 on the fly up river weighing 7lb and 4lb (one released), Tony Scallan had a 7lb fish on the worm up river, Michael O’Kane had 2 up river weighing 5lb and 6lb both caught on worm.
Michael O’Kane also released a fish in the morning at the falls on prawn, Denis Crawley released a fish of 4lb on fly, Aidan Heffernan released a 5lb fish on fly and Sean Maye released a fish off the fly weighing approx. 4lb.
Sunday May 31st
11 fish were caught on Sunday, all fish were caught before the flood came down. 9 of the 11 fish were caught on the worm, John Connolly released 2 on the fly weighing 5lb and 6lb both on a posh tosh.
Anglers who caught on the worm were Vincent Henry (5lb), Colm Lynam (7lb + 6lb), John Lawler (4lb + 5lb), Fechin McMorrow Snr (5lb + 6lb), Anthony McCann (6lb) and Bernard Harte (4lb).
