April 11th – The river had started to rise after some heavy rainfall, Tony Scallan had a fish 7.5lb on the worm, while Denis Crawley and Bernard Harte released fish on the fly weighing 6lb and 9lb respectively before the flood came down.
April 12th – The river was in a substantial flood, therefore worm was really the only option. Visiting anglers Billy Moylan, Ray Drennan and Paul Drennan managed to get fish on the worm weighing 8lb, 7lb and 6lb respectively.
April 13th – The river was still in flood although it had dropped off slightly, resulting in 2 anglers fishing for the day, unfortunately catching no fish.
April 14th – The river had dropped nicely over overnight, Gabirel McKeon had his first of the year, a nice 8lb fish on the worm. Vincent Henry released 2 fish weighing 5lb and 8lb, both fish fell to the posh tosh tube fly.
April 15th - The river was back to a nice level, Hilary Mitchell had a nice fish on the fly weighing 8lb, Andrew Pearson had a cracking fish of 12.5lb taken on a light willie gunn tube at harrissons, Andrew had previously released a 9lb fish, Tom Devaney and John Murray both released a fish each on the fly both weighing approximately 8lb.
April 16th – Visiting angler John Joe O’Neill was the only successful angler on what was a cold, unfavourable day. John Joe was rewarded with a nice fish of 9.5lb taken on the fly.
April 17th – 7 fish were caught for the day, mainly on the fly. Ronan Hoey and Fechin McMorrow (Jnr) had fish on the worm weighing 6lb and 8lb respectively. Successful fly anglers were Philip Soden (8lb), Sean Gallagher who releases a 6lb fish then went on to catch a better fish of 8lb, Hubert Henry (6lb) and Vincent Henry who released an 8lb fish.
The usual flies for this time of the year at Ballisodare are working, mainly tube flies : posh tosh, willie gunn, cascade and park shrimp, some fish are being taken on flies dressed on standard hooks also.
Very successful month at Ballisodare.
